There’s no better feeling than catching your first fish! The Shimano Fish Pond is a catch-and-release warm water pond right here at the Heritage Centre. The pond provides fishing opportunities to members of the community that have limited access to fishing opportunities. The Shimano Fish Pond is easily accessible by wheelchair and provides a memorable and exciting experience for students, families and community groups. The Heritage Centre supplies the rods and reels for your fishing adventure.
The pond must be booked in advance by community groups or requested ahead of time for special events.
Maximum group size = 10 anglers (fishing at once)
The pond will be open to the general public for drop-in style fishing every Friday in July and August from 10am to 12pm as part of our TackleShare program.
All instruction and equipment is provided!
Where is the pond located?
The pond is conveniently located behind the OFAH | Mario Cortellucci Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre at 4601 Guthrie Drive in Peterborough.
How can my group book the pond or request more information?
The pond must be booked in advance for community groups or special events. The maximum group size is 10 anglers.

What species of fish are stocked in the pond?
The pond contains large and smallmouth bass, bluegill, pumpkinseed and rock bass.
What is TackleShare?
TackleShare is a program designed to give new and young anglers the opportunity to go fishing at no cost. The program is offered at the Heritage Centre every Friday from 10am to 12pm during the months of July and August. Equipment (including worms) and instruction is provided free of charge.
How do pond bookings work?
Fishing equipment is provided free of charge through the TackleShare program. Our staff will show you everything you need to know and help you fish for the duration of your pond booking. A typical booking is 1 hour in length. Please call us ahead to book your fishing time and don’t forget to bring your own worms!
When is the pond available?
The pond is open May 1 to Thanksgiving.
Do I need to bring my own bait?
For community groups using the pond, we ask that you bring your own bait – typically worms. For those using the pond during a class trip, birthday party or facility booking, we will provide worms for you.
